New Laptop + Ubuntu + Compiz = Awesome!

2 weeks ago my Series 1 Dell XPS that I've had for 4.5 years started flaking out on me and since I've gone independent with my work I can't go without one for any length of time.  Otherwise, I don't work.  Dell couldn't get me one soon enough so I was making the dreaded drive to Best Buy to look around.  I called a friend of mine to get some buying advice and he directed me to Micro Center instead.  After looking around quite a bit and calling another friend to verify all the hardware specs on the Ubuntu wiki I decided on a Sony FZ460E/B.

Duel Core 2.1GHz
4GB RAM
250GB SATA HD
Blue-Ray DVD
NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT
15.4" WXGA (Glossy)

I couldn't be more pleased with the system.  I'm normally not an eye candy type of guy but since its there anyway I couldn't resist playing with all the Compiz stuff given the hardware I have now.  I know there are thousands of these on youtube but I made a video of my desktop using a few of the features I like best.

after two three days, i turned off all shiny effects.. snappy and much better. those IMHO, those compiz stuff are not for developers really. They dont play so well with java either

Its sad because you are partly right. But I use scale and expo a lot. Mac users don't turn those features off while developing. I shouldn't have to either.
