From Intellij to Eclipse (because of Compiz Swing bugs)
There are some serious issues with Compiz and Swing.

If you google "compiz java" you'll get a whole slew of the same. Because I use a couple of the compiz plugins quite extensively I've had to move over to using Eclipse instead of Intellij IDEA. And because of that I've had to hack a way for Eclipse to deal with the concept of modules. Intellij allows you to create a project and then define modules within said project.
What's I've done is I've use Eclipse workspaces to define a project root. I then create seperate projects for each module I want defined. This is kind of a PITA but it works. I know I could turn compiz off and move happily along using Intellij but I wanted to see how badly I miss it so this will do for now. I really wish the compiz + swing issues get worked out soon. There seems to be a bit of a blame game going on right now so I have no clue who is even trying to fix it.

New Laptop + Ubuntu + Compiz = Awesome!
2 weeks ago my Series 1 Dell XPS that I've had for 4.5 years started flaking out on me and since I've gone independent with my work I can't go without one for any length of time. Otherwise, I don't work. Dell couldn't get me one soon enough so I was making the dreaded drive to Best Buy to look around. I called a friend of mine to get some buying advice and he directed me to Micro Center instead. After looking around quite a bit and calling another friend to verify all the hardware specs on the Ubuntu wiki I decided on a Sony FZ460E/B.
Duel Core 2.1GHz
4GB RAM
250GB SATA HD
Blue-Ray DVD
NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT
15.4" WXGA (Glossy)
I couldn't be more pleased with the system. I'm normally not an eye candy type of guy but since its there anyway I couldn't resist playing with all the Compiz stuff given the hardware I have now. I know there are thousands of these on youtube but I made a video of my desktop using a few of the features I like best.

What Makes Stripes So Great?
What better way to kick off my new weblog than with an entry about Stripes! I was reading the mailing list this morning and there is a discussion about Stripes versus Struts2. The author of the thread was trying to convince his team that they should migrate to Stripes instead of Struts2. So he asked for some leverage from the Stripes community. I'm not going to get into that debate here but an avid Stripes user, Will, made some very nice remarks regarding why Stripes is so good. I'd like to pull out some of his comments here.
Welcome!
I think this is the third time I've changed weblog locations. Hopefully this will be the last. While blogger was good to me for a while I finally am able to spend some time on my own site and wanted to host my own blog. So here it is.
It will be much of the same. Random puddles of Java talk here and there. Probably some Stripes articles. Maybe some personal stuff. I'll try and keep everything tagged appropriately so that anyone that subscribes can keep the noise to chaff ratio as low as possible.
